A lot of people have reblogged this because of some argument about veganism. but I’d like to point out that more animals are subjected to cruelty than just the cute puppies and kitties and bunnies. Alternative pets like reptiles and rodents and invertebrates are not only abused and neglected as well, but many people don’t even care because they see them as ‘lesser’ animals not worthy of love or even basic respect. Exotic pet lovers struggle with ignorant and insensitive people who would belittle them and talk about committing violent acts against their beloved companions to their face. Many pet stores are full of sick and dying reptiles, amphibians and arachnids, left to suffer until they die because the employees simply don’t care about their well-being. A snake can’t tell you when it’s in pain. A frog can’t cry. A spider can’t beg for mercy.
Exotics are stigmatized, depicted in media as the animals of choice for “creepy” people and disgruntled, sadistic bullies. Tarantulas most significantly, as cartoons such as Rugrats and Total Drama Island have introduced tarantulas and had them smashed as jokes. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen one positive portrayal of tarantula ownership on television. But that’s moving towards a separate issue entirely.
So, how about this? Reblog if you’re against cruelty against ALL animals. Not just the cute ones.
exotics arent just reptiles, amphibians and arachnids.
rats, chinchillas, cavies (guinea pigs), hamsters and more are often left in cages too small, often home built cages with wire bottoms or bar lidded litter boxes, the four i listed are subject to an ulceration infection which is commonly refereed to as “bumble foot” which often leads to death. they are fed foods that could potentially harm them or left without a companion and zero excessive and little food. subjecting them to depression, anorexia, dehydration, and deadly illnesses such as bumble foot, uri, scurvy, mange mites, fungle infections, ect
Sugar gliders, too! Too small cages, bad diets, lack of stimulation, lack of cage mate, etc. I could go on and on.
My gliders don’t really like HPW Plus. They prefer the Complete. This is a problem because I accidentally ordered HPW Plus last time and they aren’t really having it, haha. I need to buy Complete but I don’t want to waste the Plus I have left (which is over half). I thought about selling it but idk. Any ideas?
Finals are next week. That means I’ll be making cage sets again soon!
Send me some inspiration! What kind of sets would you like to see me post? What colors/patterns? Take a trip to a fabric store’s website and send me links! I want to know what YOU want! :)
This is Simba and Nala! OOP 3-25-13 at 2AM! Mosaic boy and girl. The boy has a long white tip and the girl has a small white tip! I love them already and can’t wait until they can finally come home!
